Village residents strongly oppose condo proposal

YORK, Maine – Before a packed meeting room of about 50 people Thursday night, the Planning Board received its first look at an application for a condominium complex on land belonging to the family of the late Mary Davis on York Street.

During the public hearing, residents expressed concern about the proposal on many levels, most of them worried about safety issues on York Street. Water runoff onto neighboring properties and project density were among additional concerns. These views were buttressed by a letter submitted to the board and signed by 50 townspeople.

In addition, several people wondered whether the town would once again consider purchasing the 110-acre parcel, which voters in a nonbinding question rejected in 2014.

At issue is a proposal to build a 113-unit condo complex on 106 acres that spread behind York Street and over to Donica Road.
